Chalet-decor for a cosy atmosphere

Article published on 16/12/2022

Would you like to create a warm and cosy atmosphere at home? Then chalet decoration is for you

Chalet-decor is ideal for creating a welcoming atmosphere in our interiors. Simple to recreate, it represents a perfect opportunity to escape while staying at home. Here are some decorating ideas that will allow you to adopt this style that will guarantee warmth and cosiness.

Alpine atmosphere

Give preference to wood

Chalet decor essentially allows you to imagine yourself nestled in the heart of the mountains and the typical mountain chalet is exclusively made of wood. If you want to create that Nordic atmosphere in your interior, this natural material should be a must. Do not hide your parquet flooring and exposed beams. Instead, take advantage of the benefits of this authenticity by using the following tips to create a typical mountain decor. If you don't have any, you can perfectly well choose a floor covering such as a wooden floor, ideally in a dark colour. As for the walls, opt for light-coloured panelling or leave them bare.

The choice of your furniture is also an important element in creating a chalet decor. It is not necessary to overload the rooms, but rather choose quality furniture that is adapted to the ambiance. For example, do not hesitate to use solid wood for a kitchen china cabinet. A large solid pine farmhouse table with benches in the dining room will also look great. Why not add a sideboard, a wooden coffee table and a velvet sofa in the living room to create a true-to-life mountain environment. The idea here is to choose wood furniture in a variety of shades and colours. If you do not want to go for the total wooden look, this natural material has the advantage of being able to match perfectly with steel or glass. You can thus mix styles and adopt a pure Scandinavian atmosphere for your interior.

Play with textiles

While wall and floor coverings and furniture lay the foundation for your cottage decor, textiles help to liven up the rooms. To soften the rusticity of the materials, don't hesitate to play the abundance of textiles card. Place several cushions of different shapes and colours on the sofa and armchairs. Cosy velvet plaids or fake fur rugs in the living room will bring the cocooning touch you are looking for in a chalet decor. In the bedroom, a shag rug will keep your feet warm. Choose light colours such as beige or ecru to contrast with the wooden floor. If you are worried about dust mites, a wool or animal skin rug is ideal.

When it comes to linen, there is a wide choice. Duvet covers and pillowcases printed with red and white checks, cosy duvets, curtains that contrast with the furniture, soft padded chair cushions, patterned tea towels... The main thing is to choose comfortable accessories that match your style. Choose soft, thick textiles that you can curl up in. Printed or embroidered details will add an extra touch of authentic charm. While checks, hearts and bows should not be overused, you can also opt for soft pastel colours such as an unbleached bed linen set or a white plaid to cover a sofa. A cosy atmosphere guaranteed!

Taking care of the decoration

This is a detail not to be neglected. The decor is indeed the touch that will allow you to immerse yourself in a universe that will not fail to remind you of the mountain atmosphere at the foot of the slopes. Although you shouldn't overload the rooms, a few elements will allow you to create a pleasant chalet decor.

If you have a fireplace, don't hesitate to highlight it. What could be more pleasant than being able to warm up and recharge your batteries by the fire? To make the most of this warm method of heating, it is ideal to decorate it in a way that will bring out its peaceful side. Scented candles, candle holders, pretty lamps with soft lighting for a poetic spirit will not fail to reinforce its cosy aspect. If you are a hunting enthusiast, a stag's head hanging above it will be perfect for a chalet-decor. If, on the other hand, you are sensitive to the animal cause, you will easily find imitations in origami for example, in wood or metal.

If you do not have a fireplace, a wood stove or a fake fireplace will do the trick. Some of these imitate the flames very well and give off a warmth that provides the perfect cosy the atmosphere. In addition to the fireplace, a sideboard, a coffee table or a bookcase also deserve to be decorated sparingly. Wooden objects, mirrors, photo frames, candles, plants, pretty crockery, lamps, etc. will find their place perfectly. And if space allows, why not add a pretty wooden sled or skis in the corner of a room.

Warm atmosphere

A suitable light

For an authentic chalet-decor, ideally favour intimate light sources over bright lighting. Dare to use hanging lights made of original materials such as rope or glass in the living room. Table lamps in raw wood or tripod lamps in metal will blend in perfectly with the rest of the decor. Installed on a piece of furniture such as an enfilade or on a shelf, LED electric garlands that diffuse a white or red light will perfectly bring out the colours of the furniture and the textiles.

You can also create a reading corner in the bedroom or living room with a floor lamp placed next to an armchair. Subdued lighting on bedside tables will create a warm atmosphere. Warm white light bulbs are best. Of course, candles and candleholders will further contribute to the cosy mountain feelling. Don't hesitate to vary the models and sizes.
